For retrofit residential LED bulbs, the retrofit bulb is constrained to a ~100 year old bulb envelope design.

For retrofit industrial/commercial scenarios, the barrier to acceptance is lowered where the installation of an LED lighting system can be done by unlicensed installers. This is particularly true for the T-lamp (fluorescent tube) market which represents a huge install base.
